Rik Mayall died five years ago today

The word genius is used too often these days, but he was most definitely one of them

Youngs One's was brilliant, Bottom wasn't bad but sadly very much downhill after that

Oh nursery you sound like my gran... Not that she watched him.
I saw Rik as Kevin Turvey at the Bham Rep.. He was hilarious and a bit scary... Young ones were classic, along with the Comic Strip I wasn't into Bottom ooh err.. But that Xmas nativity sketch was brilliant Gold, Frankinstein and Grrrrr..
I loved him and was so sad when he died.. 5 years blimey.
Had enough nazi or do you want some more"

I grew up watching the Young Ones, Comic Strip etc. I liked him when he played that Alan B'Stard too. Bottom, I've never really got into.

I found a load of Kevin Turvey stuff on Pirate Bay years ago; absolutely loved it. Must see if I can find it again - remember a monologue about a girlfriend, her mum and a dead dog (I think) that rambled on for ages; had me in tears.

Another vote here for Filthy Rich and Catflap.
Oh and of course Bad News and Mr Jolly Lives Next Door.
I read with some amusement that Mark Hamill was starstruck when he met Adrian Edmonson on the last Star Wars film.

Captain Darling? Funny name for a guy isn’t it? Last person I called darling was pregnant 20 seconds later!

Adrian Edmonson?
I found a clip of The Who doing Quadraphenia in (I think) Hyde Park a while ago. "Ade" was one of the faces.
Mind you, one Gary Glitter was playing the "hard rocker" opposite him, so the less said about that, the better.

Comedy died with Rik. It has now become a dark, politically correct mess. Mayall broke all those concepts down and just made us laugh.

Bottom was genius imho. I never realised they'd written a fourth series but the BBC in their infinite wisdom decided not to take it on.
Fast forward a few years and we have Miranda and citizen khan

Another fan of FRACF here, the Trivial Pursuit episode is some of my all time favourite comedy. Also loved The Dangerous Brothers. Their 'torture' sketch still has me in tears whenever i watch it on youtube.

The young ones was so refreshing , anarchy . The thing is you had to be at a certain age to have really appreciated it. It was the sort of programme you went to work next day and spoke about a particular piece . The opening poster is so right , he was an absolute master. I think his quad bike accident had more affect on his health than realised. "Neil your bedroom's on fire "
